Genuine vs Aftermarket Parts for Iveco Daily: Which to Choose?

It's one of the questions we're asked most often: is a genuine IVECO part or an aftermarket one better? The answer isn't as simple as you might think, because it depends on several factors. In this article we look at the pros and cons of both options to help you make the best choice for your Iveco Daily.

What Does “Genuine Part” Mean?

A genuine part (OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer) is a part made by the vehicle manufacturer or its direct suppliers, sold under the IVECO brand and packed in the official box.

Main features:

  • It carries the IVECO brand and the official OE number
  • It is made to the manufacturer's exact specifications
  • It is covered by the IVECO warranty (in addition to the legal guarantee)
  • It is distributed through the official IVECO network and authorised dealers

What Does “Aftermarket Part” Mean?

An aftermarket part is made by an independent company, not affiliated with the vehicle manufacturer. These companies make parts designed to be equivalent to the original in terms of dimensions, function and performance.

The aftermarket world is very varied:

  • OES (Original Equipment Supplier): the same supplier that makes the part for IVECO also sells it under its own brand. Same part, different packaging, lower price
  • Premium aftermarket: specialist companies producing parts of equal or higher quality than the original (brands such as TYC, ABAKUS, PRASCO for bodywork)
  • Budget aftermarket: low-cost parts, variable quality, suitable for non-critical uses

Head-to-Head Comparison: Genuine vs Aftermarket

Quality and Reliability

Genuine: guaranteed, consistent quality. Every part passes IVECO quality checks.

Aftermarket: variable quality. Premium brands offer quality equal to the original, while budget products may have less precise tolerances. The key is choosing the right brand.

Price

Genuine: full list price. It includes the margin of the IVECO brand and the official dealer network.

Aftermarket: generally 30-60% cheaper than the original. The saving is particularly significant on bodywork, filters, electrical system and consumable components.

Availability

Genuine: available for recent models, harder to find for older Dailys (pre-2006).

Aftermarket: often better availability, especially for older models where IVECO has discontinued the part.

Warranty

Genuine: IVECO warranty (usually 12-24 months) in addition to the legal guarantee.

Aftermarket: 2-year legal guarantee. Premium brands often offer their own additional warranties.

When to Choose Genuine

We recommend the genuine IVECO part in these cases:

  1. Safety components: brakes, steering, airbags, seat belts
  2. Vehicle under warranty: so you don't risk invalidating the cover
  3. Critical engine components: injectors, turbocharger, high-pressure pump
  4. Complex electronics: ECUs, ADAS sensors, control modules
  5. Specific regulations: if your Daily has to comply with specific regulations (e.g. carriage of dangerous goods)

When Aftermarket Is the Better Choice

Quality aftermarket is the ideal choice for:

  1. Bodywork: bumpers, front grille, wing mirrors, headlamps, wings - the quality of premium brands is practically identical to the original
  2. Filters: oil, air, fuel, cabin - brands such as Mann-Filter or Bosch are OES suppliers
  3. Clutch: complete aftermarket kits from brands such as Valeo or Sachs (which are original equipment suppliers)
  4. Lighting: headlamps, lamps, indicators - excellent value for money
  5. Accessories and trim: handles, mirror covers, trim strips
  6. Older Dailys: where the genuine part is no longer available or is prohibitively expensive

The Secret of OES

Here's a little-known fact: IVECO doesn't manufacture most of its parts itself. It buys them from specialist suppliers (Bosch, Valeo, Mann, Brembo, Sachs, etc.) and resells them under its own brand.

These same suppliers also sell exactly the same parts under their own brand, at a lower price because they don't include the IVECO margin. When you find a Bosch or Valeo part for your Daily, you're buying the same part as the genuine one, simply in a different box.

Our Philosophy

At Specialista Daily we offer both options: genuine IVECO parts and selected aftermarket parts. For every product we clearly state:

  • Whether it's genuine or aftermarket
  • The brand and the manufacturer
  • The compatible OE numbers
  • Whether it's from an OES supplier (same manufacturer as the genuine part)

This way you can make an informed choice based on your needs and your budget. And if you're unsure, our team is always ready to recommend the best solution for your specific case.
